Who's behind this

Depot is made by two people. Rucous had the problem, designed the thing, and uses it every day. Alexander writes the code.

Why we made it

Rucous had a sample library that had grown past 100,000 files — bought, downloaded, and collected over years. The sounds were all there, and none of them were reachable: finding one meant scrolling through folders until the idea you had was gone. We wanted a browser that did the choosing part — filter, listen, drag — and nothing else, so we built it.

Why it's free

Because it's finished enough to be useful, and charging for it would mean invoices, licence keys, refunds, and a support obligation — a small business, not a tool. Depot will stay free: whatever happens, you'll never hit a paywall in an app you already have.
